You are invited to the program tagged

Pencil Team 2024 ProMolSim

Which will focus on

"Basics of Computer-Aided Experimental Design, Modeling of Chemical Processes, and Molecular Modeling of Selected Materials"

It is scheduled to take place as follows

September 23 - October 5, 2024

Time:

9 am - 6 pm daily

Location:

Chem. Eng. Dept. Conference Room, PTDF New Building,

Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria

Program Overview:
This training will provide candidates with fundamental knowledge of various simulation packages used for designing and analyzing experiments (Design Expert, pyDOE), chemical processes (COCO, DWSim, ChemSep), and materials (Avogadro, Spartan). The program is supported by Wavefun Inc., Irvine, CA, USA, and other volunteers. The training is FREE OF CHARGE. The designed daily events would feature a series of lectures, discussions, hands-on sessions, and group activities, including coffee breaks and lunch break sessions.

 Expected Learning Outcomes:
It is expected that at the end of the training activity, the participants will be able to demonstrate capabilities in

Understanding Simulation Tools:

Experimental Design: Gain proficiency in using simulation packages like Design Expert and pyDOE to design and analyze experiments.

Chemical Processes: Develop skills in utilizing software such as COCO, DWSim, and ChemSep for modeling and analyzing chemical processes.

Molecular Modeling: Learn to use tools like Avogadro and Spartan to model selected materials.

Practical Application:

Experiment Design: Ability to create and execute experimental designs using simulation tools to optimize and analyze experimental conditions.

Process Simulation: Capability to model chemical processes, perform simulations, and interpret results for process improvement.

Material Modeling: Skill in constructing and analyzing molecular models to understand the properties and behaviors of various materials.

Analytical Skills:

Data Interpretation: Develop the ability to interpret simulation data effectively, draw meaningful conclusions, and make informed decisions based on simulation results.

Problem-Solving: Enhance problem-solving skills through practical exercises and case studies involving real-world scenarios.

Collaboration and Communication:

Teamwork: Experience working collaboratively with peers, sharing knowledge, and contributing to group discussions and projects.

Presentation: Improve skills in presenting simulation results and findings clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Technical Proficiency & Ethical and Professional Conduct:

Software Proficiency: Achieve a solid understanding and practical ability to use various simulation and modeling software relevant to experimental design, chemical processes, and materials science.

Responsibility: Understand the importance of ethical considerations and professional conduct in the use of simulation tools and data analysis.

These outcomes ensure that participants not only gain technical skills but also develop a comprehensive understanding of how to apply these skills in their academic and future professional endeavors.

 Eligibility:
This program is open to 300 and 400-level undergraduates from the Chemical, Polymer, and Material Engineering departments at Ahmadu Bello University. Candidates must be punctual, law-abiding, enthusiastic about learning and sharing knowledge, and available to stay for an additional two weeks for the entire duration of the program.

 Application Process:
Interested candidates should complete the application form available in this link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScrxyXVbOoqv7SSXAVY56pV9rge31ZFB0G8nccekscg7aIW_A/viewform
All applications will be screened through a brief interview in Room 23 (Dr. T. Oyegoke Office), PTDF New Building. Applicants are required to visit the office as soon as possible for the screening process on or before Thursday, September 19, 2024. Shortlisted candidates will be announced on Friday, September 20, 2024. Please note that spaces are limited.
